Wat

Top used search terms for toadking.com:

I don't even know who "Phil Ken Sebben" is.

I especially like how this image is catching a lot of pedophiles searching for cartoon porn.

Leechers beware

So a user by the name of “Sylar” on the narutofan.com forums apparently thought it would be “cool” to hotlink directly to a 1Mb animated GIF on toadking.com. Normally, I would let it slide, but that file was 1Mb in size, and was getting 10000+ views, which ads up to over 10Gb of bandwidth a week. So what if I have over two terabytes of bandwidth from my host? This “Sylar” needed to be taught a lesson.

I thought about Goatse-ing him, but that seemed too boring and unoriginal. As of now, I decided on a 65535×65535 GIF image to replace the one he was linking to. I plan on replacing that with something more offensive later on.

The moral of this post; don’t leech of me.

Seriously, what the hell

While I was randomly searching around the OSU Open Source Lab site, I managed to find this little gem.

SUSPENSE!

Stretching and killing cats

It’s been a while, so I thought I’d let you see what I’ve been doing for the past couple of months: Learning C. To show you, I have two cat-related programs. (The cat relationship is merely a coincidence, I swear!)

Schrödinger’s Cat: If you haven’t heard of the name Schrödinger, then look it up on Wikipedia. Basically, you place the cat inside a box and watch it either live or die. It displays one of two messages for each result, but if you know how fortune cookie files work, you can add as many as you wish.

Longcat: Longcat is a long cat. But just how long? A console program that shows you how long this cat is.

Both applications are licensed under the GPL.

UPDATE: I fixed a bug in the Longcat program and made a few minor changes to it. If you downloaded it before, please do so again.

I’m bleeding edge!

Well, after five days of working away at the terminal updating by Gentoo box to the unstable builds, I finally have everything up and working. Well, except that GNOME has some problems with SVG images which I will look into later. However, those Gentoo developers who work on Portage have to put some more work into dependency calculating; I had to rebuild a lot of stuff by hand due to updates in both the DBus and expat libraries, which made this update take much longer than necessary. The whole experience nearly made me go Rambo for no reason.

Yeah, I was just looking for an excuse to use this image.

Well, now to check my 193 new emails for me, and only about a dozen are spam!

I’m learning Perl! :)

#!/usr/bin/perl -w

use strict;
use XML::Atom::Client;
use Text::Wrap;

$Text::Wrap::columns = 76;

my $atomapi = XML::Atom::Client->new;

my $o;

MAINLOOP: {
eval {
my $f = $atomapi->getFeed(”http://4q.cc/index.php?pid=atom&person=all“);
my @entry = $f->entries;
my $e = $entry[0];
$o = $e->elem->getChildrenByTagName(”title”)->shift->firstChild->data;
};

if ($@) {
redo MAINLOOP;
}
}

$o = “\n\033[1;34m” . fill(”\033[1;34m”, “\033[1;34m”, “FUN FACT: $o”) . “\n\n”;
$o =~ s/\033\[1;34m\033\[1;34m/\033[1;34m/g;
open(MOTD, “>/etc/motd”);
print MOTD $o;
truncate(MOTD, length($o));
